Tips for giving your wedding speech…..

If you’re not used to public speaking, being asked to give a speech whether at a wedding or a funeral can be daunting – terrifying to some!  So, here’s a few tips that will help:

  1. Practice out loud – speaking and listening will show you when to pause and when to emphasise.

  2. Find your comfortable standing position for speaking. If you’re comfortable, you’ll feel and look more confident.

  3. Be yourself – write your speech as you would normally speak - again it’ll give you confidence if you’re comfortable.

  4. Bear in mind that most people lose concentration after about 15 minutes. Now I’m not suggesting your speech has to be 15 minutes long – it may only 2 or 3 but if it’s going to be longer, then tell a story or a joke, ask a question, get the guests involved.

  5. AND so important……..Breath! Don’t speak too fast – speaking too fast can lose the sentiment of what you’re trying to say. Pause if you need to…. and take control of yourself again.
